There is a problem with most HubSpot SEO Course Review articles in 2026. A lot of them are still reviewing the old HubSpot SEO Certification as though it were an active course.
It isn’t.
HubSpot officially retired its SEO Certification on June 25, 2026, and replaced it with two new certifications: AEO Fundamentals and Implementing AEO With HubSpot.
That changes how this HubSpot SEO Course Review 2026 needs to be written.
I went through the available HubSpot Academy lessons, curriculum, course structure, and the new learning path, and I also looked at what learners have said about the older certification in SEO communities. My goal here is not to repeat whatever happens to rank for “HubSpot SEO Course.” It’s to work out what these courses actually teach well, where they fall short, and who should spend their time on them.
And there is another principle behind this review. CoursesMag does not recommend every course we find.
There are dozens of HubSpot Academy courses, but listing everything would make this just another SEO course roundup. Our job is to filter. We only introduce courses when we believe they genuinely deserve our readers’ time.
For this article, that leaves us with four HubSpot offerings that actually matter to someone trying to learn SEO in 2026:
Quick Decision Guide
| Your Goal | Our Top Pick | Provider | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best historical SEO foundation | HubSpot SEO Certification | HubSpot | A clear, beginner-friendly introduction to traditional SEO fundamentals, although the certification was retired in 2026 |
| 🏆 Best current HubSpot SEO foundation | HubSpot AEO Fundamentals | HubSpot | The clearest starting point for learning how traditional SEO connects with AEO and AI-powered search in 2026 |
| Best for practical AEO implementation | Implementing AEO With HubSpot | HubSpot | Four practical exercises and a workflow covering setup, monitoring, citation analysis and optimization |
| Best for understanding AI search | SEO in the Age of AI | HubSpot | Broad coverage of Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini |
Together, these four cover the most important stages of the HubSpot learning journey without padding the article with unrelated certifications.
A Note on Our Course Order and Community Ratings
The courses in this guide are not ranked from best to worst. We’ve ordered them based on the different questions and challenges learners are likely to have when searching for HubSpot SEO courses in 2026.
That’s why the HubSpot SEO Certification appears first. Although it has been retired, understanding what the original certification covered helps explain how HubSpot’s SEO education has changed and what replaced it.
The other courses are then presented based on the specific learning needs they address — from building a modern SEO and AEO foundation to implementing AEO and understanding the changing AI search landscape.
And we want our readers to have a say, too.
You can rate these courses on CoursesMag and help us build a community-driven score over time. We’ll only display a CoursesMag Community Score once a course has received enough verified member ratings to make the result meaningful.
Our expert scores reflect our own six-criteria evaluation. The community score is separate and will reflect the experiences of CoursesMag readers.

It was completely free while active and included a recognized HubSpot certification, making the amount of foundational knowledge delivered for the price difficult to beat.

Read our HubSpot SEO Certification reviewHubSpot SEO Certification Review: What Was the Course Actually Like?
The old HubSpot SEO Certification was good at something very specific:
giving a beginner a coherent mental model of SEO without drowning them in complexity.
That matters more than it sounds.
When I went through the course structure, the progression made sense. HubSpot started with the fundamentals of how search engines work, moved into keyword research and on-page optimization, then covered technical SEO, link building, rich results and SEO reporting.
That broad curriculum is also reflected in historical descriptions of the course, which included search engine fundamentals, website auditing, keyword research, on-page and technical SEO, link building, structured data and reporting through tools such as Google Analytics and Google Search Console.
The problem isn’t that the course taught the wrong things.
The problem is how far it takes you with them.
After finishing it, you can understand an SEO conversation much better. You can recognize what crawling, indexing, search intent, keyword research, internal linking, backlinks and technical optimization are supposed to accomplish.
But there’s a meaningful difference between:
“I understand what an SEO audit is.”
and:
“Give me a 100,000-page website and I’ll find the actual problems, prioritize them and explain what we should fix first.”
The old HubSpot course is much closer to the first. That’s why I gave it 3.3/5 for Practical Learning.
And this isn’t just my impression. In one Reddit discussion, a learner who had just completed the HubSpot course asked what to do next. A response argued that SEO can’t really be learned through courses alone and recommended creating a website, experimenting and documenting what happens. Another commenter simply said to start building a site and work on ranking it.
That’s a useful criticism.
The course gives you the vocabulary and framework. Experience still has to come from somewhere else.
Who Was It Actually For?
This was much closer to a HubSpot SEO Certification for Beginners than an advanced professional certification.
And that’s not an insult.
For a marketer, content creator, small business owner or someone just entering SEO, the short format was a strength. The lessons were broken into manageable pieces, and a learner review highlighted exactly that: the material was easy to dip in and out of and the examples helped connect the concepts to practical situations.
Where things change is experience level.
If you already work with crawling and indexing, canonicalization, technical audits and other advanced SEO processes, you may get more value from dedicated technical SEO courses.
much of the course will feel like reinforcement rather than a major skill upgrade.
That is why I wouldn’t recommend the old course to an experienced SEO specialist even if it were still available.
Is HubSpot SEO Course Free?
Historically, yes.
The HubSpot SEO Course Free angle was one of its biggest advantages. HubSpot Academy courses are built around free access, and historical listings of the SEO Certification consistently showed the price as free.
That gives HubSpot a powerful value proposition for beginners, especially when compared with other free SEO courses available online.
You could spend a few hours learning the fundamentals and leave with a recognizable HubSpot credential without paying for the course itself.
But free doesn’t automatically mean high value. The more important question is what you get for those hours.
For a beginner, quite a lot. For someone with several years of SEO experience, considerably less.
Is HubSpot SEO Certification Free?
Yes, it was.
But this is where the 2026 update matters.
The old HubSpot SEO Certification Free offer is now historical. The current HubSpot Academy SEO page no longer provides the old certification. It now contains a one-minute update lesson explaining that the certification has been retired.
So be careful with articles claiming that you can still enroll in the original course and earn its certificate in 2026.
You can’t.
HubSpot SEO Certification Retired: What Happened?
This is the part most outdated reviews get wrong.
The current HubSpot Academy page explicitly says:
“The SEO Certification has been retired.”
HubSpot states that on June 25, 2026, it would be replaced by AEO Fundamentals and Implementing AEO With HubSpot. The current Academy page now points learners toward those new certifications.
So when someone searches for HubSpot SEO Certification 2026, there are really two different questions hiding behind that query:
- Can I still take the old certification?
- What should I learn from HubSpot now?
The answer to the first is no.
The answer to the second leads us to HubSpot’s new AEO-focused curriculum.
What Replaced HubSpot SEO Certification?
HubSpot didn’t simply rename the old course. It changed the direction of its SEO education.
The two new certifications are:
HubSpot AEO Fundamentals
and
Implementing AEO With HubSpot
The first focuses on understanding the new search environment and combining SEO with Answer Engine Optimization.
The second focuses much more heavily on actually implementing and measuring AEO within HubSpot. That distinction is important. The old certification was primarily a traditional SEO fundamentals program.
The new certifications reflect HubSpot’s view that search is increasingly happening through AI-powered answer engines as well as conventional search engines.
Whether you agree with every part of HubSpot’s framing is less important than recognizing that the Academy curriculum has genuinely changed.

Score Breakdown
Why this score?
Covers the major concepts connecting traditional SEO with AEO, including search intent, EEAT, AI visibility, citations and optimization. Its relatively short runtime limits the depth.
Why this score?
Goes beyond theory with optimization and measurement concepts, but there isn't enough hands-on work to develop strong implementation skills in only 2 hours and 20 minutes.
Why this score?
Explains the transition from traditional search to AI-powered search clearly and keeps unfamiliar AEO concepts accessible to learners coming from an SEO background.
Why this score?
The seven-lesson structure and relatively short videos make a rapidly changing subject easy to digest without requiring advanced technical knowledge.
Why this score?
Free access and certification, combined with genuinely current SEO/AEO material, make the course exceptionally strong from a cost-to-content perspective.
Why this score?
AEO and AI visibility are increasingly relevant skills for modern search professionals, but the certification alone is still not evidence of advanced SEO or AEO expertise.
Pros
- Strong 2026 relevance
- Connects traditional SEO with AEO rather than treating them as completely separate disciplines
- Covers search intent, EEAT and keyword research
- Includes AI citations, AI Overviews and featured snippets
- Introduces AI visibility measurement
- Uses Google Search Console and GA4 alongside AEO concepts
- Free certification
Cons
- Only 2 hours 20 minutes
- Not deep enough to replace a comprehensive SEO education
- Some AEO concepts are still evolving rapidly
- Practical execution is lighter than the name "AEO" might suggest
- More useful as a modern foundation than as advanced SEO training

If you're looking for HubSpot's current approach to SEO and AI search, see our HubSpot AEO Fundamentals review before you start.
See our HubSpot AEO Fundamentals reviewMy Take on HubSpot AEO Fundamentals
This is the most important new HubSpot course for someone who arrives here looking for a HubSpot SEO Course in 2026. And I think HubSpot made the right educational move by not simply bolting a 15-minute AI section onto the old SEO course.
The curriculum is genuinely different.
The course has seven lessons, 19 videos and runs for 2 hours 20 minutes. It covers search visibility across both search engines and answer engines, EEAT, keyword research for search and AI visibility, AI citations and measurement.
One section I particularly liked is the shift in how keyword research is explained.
Instead of treating keyword research purely as a process of finding high-volume phrases, the course asks learners to think about the questions people are actually asking and how answer engines retrieve and surface information. That is a useful conceptual upgrade.
The course also gets more concrete in its optimization section. It discusses headers, title tags, content formatting, structured data and schema markup, and explains how these elements can make information easier for both search systems and AI systems to interpret.
Still, I’m not giving it 5/5.
The biggest limitation is depth.
Two hours and 20 minutes is enough to understand the framework. It isn’t enough to become genuinely skilled at SEO and AEO implementation.
So I see HubSpot AEO Fundamentals as:
a strong modern foundation, not a complete SEO education.
Is HubSpot SEO Course Worth It in 2026?
If by “HubSpot SEO Course” you mean the old SEO Certification, no new learner should be planning around it because it has been retired.
If you’re asking whether HubSpot Academy is still worth using to learn SEO in 2026, the answer is more nuanced.
Yes — but mainly because HubSpot has changed what it is teaching.
The value has shifted from the retired traditional SEO certification toward SEO + AEO + AI visibility. That makes the current Academy more relevant to 2026 than the old certification itself.
3. Implementing AEO With HubSpot Review

Last reviewed: October 3, 2026
CoursesMag Expert Score
Score Breakdown
Why this score?
Covers a complete AEO workflow from readiness and setup to monitoring, citation analysis and optimization. Its HubSpot-specific focus keeps it from being a universal AEO curriculum.
Why this score?
Four practical exercises and hands-on work with monitoring, grading and visibility data make this considerably more action-oriented than a typical certification course.
Why this score?
The course connects concepts to an actual workflow and explains how different AEO activities fit together rather than presenting them as isolated tactics.
Why this score?
The material remains structured and accessible, but the implementation focus and HubSpot tooling make it more demanding than AEO Fundamentals.
Why this score?
It's free and includes practical exercises alongside a certification, giving learners substantial hands-on exposure without a course fee.
Why this score?
Demonstrates more practical AEO knowledge than a purely theoretical certification, although its HubSpot-centric nature limits how directly the skills transfer to every SEO role.
Pros
- Much more implementation-oriented than AEO Fundamentals
- Includes four practical exercises
- Builds around a real AEO workflow
- Covers baseline measurement, dashboards and citation analysis
- Connects optimization with ongoing measurement
- Free certification
- Particularly relevant for SEO practitioners expanding into AEO
Cons
- Strongly tied to HubSpot's own AEO tools
- Less useful if you're not working inside the HubSpot ecosystem
- More difficult for a complete beginner
- AEO itself is still a fast-moving discipline
- It should not be mistaken for a complete technical SEO course

Read our Implementing AEO With HubSpot reviewMy Take on Implementing AEO With HubSpot
This is where I think HubSpot’s new curriculum becomes substantially more interesting.
The course is 2 hours 58 minutes, contains seven lessons, 23 videos and, importantly, four practical exercises. That last part matters.
One of my biggest criticisms of the old certification was the gap between understanding SEO concepts and actually doing SEO work.
HubSpot has clearly tried to reduce that gap here.
The course walks learners through assessing readiness, setting up the monitoring environment, interpreting visibility data, optimizing content for AI citations and building a repeatable AEO process.
One exercise involves using HubSpot’s AEO Grader and then configuring the live monitoring environment. Another part focuses on reading visibility data and deciding what to do with citation information.
That is much closer to real workflow than simply watching someone explain what AEO means. There’s an important limitation, though.
This is HubSpot-centric by design.
The course is specifically aimed at people using HubSpot’s AEO tools, and the introductory lesson even asks learners to confirm that they have the appropriate HubSpot access.
So I wouldn’t tell every SEO professional to take it. For someone working inside HubSpot, however, the practical value is considerably higher. That’s why it gets our highest score of the four current offerings.
4. SEO in the Age of AI: HubSpot’s Current Learning Path

CoursesMag Expert Score
Score Breakdown
Why this score?
Covers a broad range of current topics, from Google AI Overviews and AI Mode to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI-assisted content. The trade-off is limited depth.
Why this score?
The 90-day implementation plan and platform-specific guidance give learners actionable ideas, but the short learning path doesn't provide enough practice for advanced implementation.
Why this score?
Does a good job of explaining a fragmented and rapidly changing search landscape without reducing AI search to a single platform or tactic.
Why this score?
The playlist format and relatively short runtime make it easy to work through, even for learners who are still getting familiar with AI search.
Why this score?
It's free and provides a useful overview of several major AI search environments, making the cost-to-information ratio excellent.
Why this score?
Useful for keeping an SEO skill set current, particularly around AI search, but its broad overview format doesn't demonstrate specialist-level expertise by itself.
Pros
- Directly addresses the biggest change in search for 2026
- Covers Google AI Overviews and AI Mode
- Includes ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini
- Includes AEO strategy, AI visibility and content optimization
- Includes a 90-day implementation roadmap
- Free
- Useful companion to the two AEO certifications
Cons
- Not a traditional SEO course
- Very short for the amount of ground it covers
- More strategic than deeply technical
- Some advice is tied to HubSpot's broader marketing framework
- Not enough on advanced technical SEO

Explore our SEO in the Age of AI reviewMy Take on SEO in the Age of AI
This is an important distinction:
SEO in the Age of AI is not another version of the HubSpot SEO Course.
It’s a learning path.
HubSpot describes it as six playlists with 31 videos and a total runtime of 1 hour 51 minutes. The content covers changes in search behavior, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, AI-assisted content, video visibility and a 90-day AEO implementation plan.
For 2026, that’s useful. The strongest part is its breadth across different AI search environments.
Rather than treating “AI search” as one generic product, HubSpot explicitly discusses platform-specific approaches for Google, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini.
But once again, the runtime tells you what this is.
1 hour 51 minutes isn’t enough to build specialist-level expertise. Think of this as a map.
It shows you where SEO is moving and what topics you need to understand. It doesn’t give you enough depth to turn those topics into advanced technical skill.
That’s why the value is high, but the practical-learning score stays at 4.0.
HubSpot SEO Certification for Resume: Does It Matter?
This is one of the questions people actually care about, and I think many reviews answer it too generously.
The HubSpot SEO Certification for Resume was useful as a signal that you had completed a recognized piece of training.
But I would not treat it as proof that someone knows how to do SEO professionally.
Even community discussions make this distinction. In one Reddit thread, commenters argued that employers care much more about evidence that someone has actually ranked content than the certificate itself. Another user said the certification was a useful first step, particularly for someone who knew very little about SEO going in.
I agree with that distinction.
A certificate can answer:
“Have you studied this subject?”
It does not answer:
“Can you diagnose a website, build an SEO strategy, execute it and learn from the results?”
For a resume, I’d treat the certificate as a supporting credential, not the centerpiece.
And because the old HubSpot SEO Certification is retired, you shouldn’t present it as a current qualification.
The new AEO certifications can demonstrate current learning, but the same principle applies: the credential is evidence of study, not evidence of professional results.
What to Do After HubSpot SEO Certification
This question shows up repeatedly in SEO communities, and it’s actually a good test of whether a course has been useful.
After completing the old HubSpot course, Reddit users repeatedly asked what to study or do next. The strongest practical advice wasn’t simply “take another certification.” It was to start working on an actual website, test ideas, document results and learn from the differences between theory and real-world conditions.
That’s important.
So What to Do After HubSpot SEO Certification isn’t necessarily:
Take another certificate.
It’s:
Use the knowledge.
Build something, Run keyword research, Optimize pages, Look at Search Console, Investigate indexing, Create internal links, Improve content, Track what changes.
Then come back to the Academy and fill the gaps you discover. That is a much better learning loop than collecting certificates.
That's ultimately why taking one course should usually be part of a broader learning path. If you're looking for best SEO courses online, we've compared a wider range of options across different platforms and learning goals.
HubSpot vs Semrush SEO Certification: Should You Compare Them?
You’ll sometimes see the query HubSpot vs Semrush SEO Certification while researching SEO training. If you’re specifically interested in Semrush SEO courses, we’ve reviewed the available options separately.
I’m deliberately not turning this article into a HubSpot-versus-other-platform ranking. That’s not what this review is for.
Our goal at CoursesMag is not to fill a comparison table simply because another website does it. We’re evaluating whether the HubSpot courses themselves deserve your time.
The more useful question here is:
What does HubSpot teach well, and where does its own curriculum stop?
That gives you information you can actually use.
Best Alternative to HubSpot SEO Certification?
There is also a search intent around Best Alternative to HubSpot SEO Certification. But in 2026, there’s an important distinction.
Before looking outside HubSpot, it’s also worth understanding how other providers approach SEO education, including dedicated Google SEO courses.
AEO Fundamentals for the fundamentals and the SEO-to-AEO transition.
Implementing AEO With HubSpot for practical implementation and measurement.
SEO in the Age of AI for a broader overview of how search is changing across Google and AI platforms. So I’m not going to manufacture an external “best alternative” just to satisfy that keyword.
For someone specifically looking for HubSpot Academy SEO Course material, these are the relevant current learning options.
Is HubSpot SEO Certification Worth It in 2026?
The answer depends on which version you’re talking about.
The old HubSpot SEO Certification
It was a good beginner course, especially considering that it was free.
It was easy to follow, broad enough to establish SEO fundamentals, and useful for people coming into SEO with little prior knowledge. But it wasn’t deep enough to turn someone into an experienced SEO professional.
And now it’s retired.
HubSpot AEO Fundamentals
This is the clearest starting point if you want HubSpot’s current approach to SEO and AI search.
It’s well structured, current, free and genuinely useful. Its main weakness is depth.
Implementing AEO With HubSpot
This is the strongest of the new certifications from a practical-learning perspective.
The four practical exercises and emphasis on setup, measurement, citation analysis and ongoing optimization make it more than a purely conceptual certification.
Its limitation is that much of the implementation assumes you’re working with HubSpot’s own tools.
SEO in the Age of AI
This is the most useful HubSpot resource for understanding how the search landscape is changing across traditional search and AI platforms.
It isn’t deep enough to be a standalone SEO education, but it is unusually relevant to the realities of SEO in 2026.
Our Final Take
At CoursesMag, we’re not interested in recommending every course just because it exists, appears on a “best courses” list, or has a recognizable brand behind it.
Our job is to filter.
After reviewing HubSpot’s SEO education, we don’t think readers need a list of ten different HubSpot certifications.
These four are enough to cover the meaningful parts of the learning journey:
The old HubSpot SEO Certification explains what the original SEO training was actually good for — and why it ultimately needed to change.
AEO Fundamentals gives beginners a current foundation for SEO and AI-powered search.
Implementing AEO With HubSpot takes that knowledge into a more practical workflow built around measurement and optimization.
SEO in the Age of AI provides the broader 2026 context, including Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini.
And there’s one lesson I think is worth keeping from the community discussion around the old course:
Don’t confuse finishing an SEO course with learning SEO.
The old certification gave beginners a useful foundation. Reddit users who went through it repeatedly ran into the same next question: what now? The most practical answers pointed toward building, testing and working on real websites rather than collecting one certification after another.
That’s ultimately where I’d place HubSpot.
It’s a very good place to start learning. It is not a substitute for experience.
And in 2026, the most interesting part of HubSpot Academy isn’t the retired SEO certification at all.
It’s what came after it.
